Hi and WELCOME! Thanks so much for dropping by! My name is Shauna Holyoak, and I write for kids and teens. It’s sorta the best job around.

Really, all you need to know about me is that I could totally subsist on frosted sugar cookies, movie-theater popcorn, and dirty Diet Coke. And all the books.

I’ve always loved reading and storytelling but only considered a career in creative writing when my senior high school English teacher scrawled, “You should become an author” at the top of a personal essay assignment. Until then, the thought hadn’t occurred. Thankfully, she planted a seed that flourished in college, where I took every creative writing class I could. I went on to get a master’s degree in English Literature with an emphasis in creative writing. And then for ten years I wrote a humor column for the local paper in which I routinely embarrassed all my children (and occasionally my husband). It was a blast.

In 2013, I finally got serious about writing fiction and finished a horrible YA contemporary novel I had started years earlier. And then, while driving my kids on their paper routes, I got a great idea for a middle-grade novel about a budding sleuth with a paper route of her own.

Kazu Jones was born!

I continue to write middle-grade and young adult fiction in Idaho Falls, Idaho where I live with my husband, six of our seven children and two naughty dogs. In addition to the Kazu Jones mystery series (first book to be released on April 23, 2019 by Disney-Hyperion), I also write a young-reader series about a super girl called Mighty Meg, the first two of which will be released by Little Bee on January 15th, 2019. Carrie Pestritto of Laura Dail is my amazing literary agent.
